  1. Very Good Review to my question. I have this additional question. I have read there are 2 versions of the FB25, Boxer Engine, the FB25B and the FB25D. The FB25D being the preferred engine. Will the VIN # give the engine type in a 2024 Subaru Outback Premium?
    Thanks,

    • The VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) itself will not directly tell you if your 2024 Subaru Outback Premium has the FB25B or the FB25D engine. Subaru VINs contain information about model, body style, drivetrain, and production details, but they don’t usually encode the exact engine variant at the letter level. Instead, the VIN can be used by a Subaru dealer or parts system to pull up your specific build sheet, which will then show the correct engine type installed in your vehicle.

In practice, the FB25B was used in earlier model years, while the FB25D — with Subaru’s updated direct-injection system and efficiency improvements — is the standard engine in the 2019+ Outback (including the 2024 Premium trim). That means your 2024 Outback Premium should have the FB25D. If you want absolute confirmation, you can:

      • Check the under-hood emissions label (it often lists the exact engine family code).
      • Contact a Subaru dealer and have them run your VIN in their system — they can tell you definitively which engine is in your car.
      • Look in your owner’s manual or the window sticker (Monroney label), which should list the engine type as the FB25D.

So, while the VIN itself doesn’t show “FB25D” on the face of it, your 2024 Outback Premium is equipped with that engine. The dealer can confirm from the VIN if you’d like official documentation.
