When did Subaru switch to 1234yf?

Subaru’s Switch to R-1234yf Refrigerant
Subaru switched to using R-1234yf refrigerant in some of their vehicle models. The transition to R-1234yf began in 2012, and since then, Subaru has incorporated it into several of their models, including the Subaru BRZ, Subaru Impreza (GP), and Subaru Justy IV. The specific year when Subaru made the switch to R-1234yf for each model can be found in the following table:
| Model | Year of Manufacture | Refrigerant |
|———————-|———————|————-|
| Subaru BRZ | 2012 – | R1234yf |
| Subaru Impreza (GP) | 2012 – | R1234yf |
| Subaru Justy IV | 2007 – 2010.02 | R134a |
Please note that this is not an exhaustive list of all Subaru models, but it provides an overview of some of the models that have made the switch to R-1234yf refrigerant.

What refrigerant does Subaru use?

Subaru refrigerant filling quantities R134a and 1234yf

Model Year of manufacture Freon
Subaru Levorg 2015 – R134a
Subaru Levorg 2015 – R1234yf
Subaru Outback 2003 – 2009 R134a

Is it legal to convert 1234yf to 134a?

Using an adapter or deliberately modifying a fitting to use a different refrigerant is a violation of these use conditions. (See Appendix D to 40 CFR part 82, subpart G.) If used properly, the unique fittings will not allow for the introduction of HFC-134a refrigerant to an HFO-1234yf system.

When did Subaru start using 1234yf?

2017 Outback and Legacy models will be the first Subaru models to be equipped with the new HFO-1234yf air conditioning refrigerant.

Is R1234yf a drop in replacement for R134a?

The cooling capacity of R1234yf used as a drop-in replacement in a R134a refrigerant facility is about 9% lower than that presented by R134a in the test range. This difference in the values of cooling capacity obtained with both refrigerants decreases when the condensing temperature increases and when an IHX is used.

Does 1234yf cool better than R134a?

The results of this study have shown that the cooling capacity of R1234yf AAC system is significantly lower (between 5 to 25 %) than R134a system. In the experiment, the power of the compressor is slightly lower (up to 11 %) for refrigerant R1234yf compared to R134a inside the AAC system.

Which cars use r-1234yf refrigerant?

Is R-1234yf being phased out?

It is anticipated that by 2025 all vehicles will contain 1234YF. Don’t fret, however, if your current vehicle requires 134a. Though 134a is not compatible with 1234YF and is expected to be phased out, it is still in production and will continue as long as there is a demand for repair of older vehicles.
